    • Apr 12thPower restored to Minneapolis dowtown after fire

Several blocks of downtown Minneapolis have power back after a brief interruption following an electrical fire at one building.

The Star Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/16ZoaeB ) that Friday morning’s outage happened in the wake of a fire in an electrical vault at the US West building near midnight. Xcel Energy workers had to “deenergize” several nearby blocks as workers tackled that.

Power was restored about 8 a.m., nearly two hours after it went off, Xcel spokesman Tom Hoen said.

The area was east of the heart of downtown. Among the affected buildings were the Pillsbury Center and the Star Tribune.

    • Apr 3rdMan held without bond in Williston homicide case

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — A 46-year-old Idaho man brought from Montana to face murder, reckless endangerment and terrorizing charges in Williston is being held without bond.

District Judge David Nelson decided Monday to hold Jonathan Horvath for a preliminary hearing and arraignment on April 23, the Williston Herald reported Wednesday.

Horvath is accused of shooting Derrick Spiegel, 28, of Williston, on March 16 on a sidewalk outside the Heartbreakers bar following arguments inside another bar.

Police said two or three shots were fired, and three spent 9 millimeter casings were found at the scene. One hit the front door of the bar and another hit Spiegel in the “upper neck/head area,” according to an arrest affidavit.

Horvath then dragged Spiegel from the area of the Heartbreaker’s door and onto Main Street, the affidavit said.

Officials have said the shooting occurred following a verbal altercation inside of Whisper’s bar.

Horvath was captured in Billings, Mont., on March 18.

At Monday’s hearing in Williston, Horvath defended fleeing the scene, saying he wanted to make sure his dog was taken somewhere safe before he came back to fight the charges. He said he had every intention of returning to Williston to cooperate with authorities.

State’s Attorney Nathan Madden asked for $2 million bond, arguing that Horvath has a long history of violence and not cooperating with authorities and that he considered Horvath to be a great danger to society. Nelson instead set no bond.

    • Mar 22ndTwo Juveniles Arrested Following Rash of Tire Slashings in Grafton, Minto

Two male juveniles have been arrested for a rash of tires slashings which occurred this week in Grafton and Minto.

Thursday morning, Grafton Police responded to 23 reports of tires being slashed in town. In addition, the Walsh County Sheriff’s office responded to at least 13 reports in Minto. It’s estimated there is more than 20,000 dollars in damages. The tires slashed included those on a sheriff deputy’s patrol car in Minto, helping lead to the arrests of the two boys.

Ron Jurgens, Walsh County Sheriff’s Office: “we had a person witness an event and call the sheriff’s office and that is pretty much how it started. And then the tires from the Grafton incident were discovered from the police department.”

Because of the amount of damages both juveniles face felony charges.
