    • Feb 4thDeer Strikes, Damages Trooper’s Vehicle Near Mentor

      A Minnesota State Patrol squad car was damaged this morning when it was struck by a deer near Mentor, Minn.

      Trooper Rick Olson was southbound on Polk County 12, about one-half mile south of Ash Street, at 7:03 a.m., when a deer darted out of the ditch and struck his police cruiser in the driver’s side door, according to the state patrol.

      Olson was not injured. However, the vehicle sustained substantial damage, according to the report.

      A Crookston pedestrian was able to protect her two children when she was hit by a car yesterday afternoon.

      35-year-old Nykisha Mariscal was carrying her year-old son and holding hands with her 6-year-old daughter when she was struck in The Washington Elementary school parking lot. Police say Mariscal was able to push her daughter out of the way, then fell on the hood of the car before falling to the ground while holding her son in her arms. She was taken to the hospital with injuries. Neither of her children was injured.
