With a win in the Preliminary Talent Competition Thursday Night, a small town girl in the big city moves a step ahead, even as the Miss America Pageant also moves forward, toward a Prime Time Final this Sunday in Atlantic City.
Thief River Falls Native and current Miss Minnesota, Brianna Drevlow, took first last night with her piano solo, her own arrangement of Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin. Bette Jorgenson of Thief River Falls, is our Special Correspondent on the East Coast this weekend, and was in the audience as Drevlow took the stage at Boardwalk Hall.
Of the previous 9 Miss Minnesotans who’ve also won Preliminary Talent, all have ended up in the top 15 and all but two in the top 4, including 2 who won the title, Dorothy Benham in 1977, and Gretchen Carlson, Miss America 1989.
And what about media reports that Drevlow struggled last night with her introduction? Jorgenson says Brianna gracefully acknowledged the mistake and moved on, unflustered as she began the talent round.
Special Events on the Boardwalk tomorrow before Pageant Finals Sunday, to be broadcast live beginning at 8pm Central Time on ABC.
