The Thief River Falls School District this week took action that will add a new measure of safety for children at rural bus stops.
Re-Attachable Reflectors that can be added to a jacket or backpack, to make students more visible in the early morning hours.
Transportation Committee and School Board Member, Misty Hempel demonstrated the reflectors at this week’s meeting of the Board of Education. The lights are highly visible and Transportation Director Ronnie Skallet said they’ve been given to a pilot group of bus students who travel rural routes along Highway 59, Highway 32 and the Cut-Across.
The same light design was piloted in the Bemidji School District earlier this year in Memory of Thief River Falls Elementary Student, Anthony Fellman.
The Challenger Second Grader was killed in a tragedy last year when he was struck by a vehicle at his school bus stop on Highway #59 in the Thief River Falls School District.
