Two people were injured yesterday in the collision between a semi and an SUV on Highway 75 in Marshall County.
State Troopers say Jeffery Weiner, 56, of Warroad, was injured when his 2011 Toyata Rav 4 struck the rear of the tractor trailer rig just after noon Wednesday, at the intersection with 430th Street in Sinnott Township. The impact so solid the Toyota and Trailer became fused, the semi able to pull both off the highway onto the county road, with Stephen Fire and Ambulance responding.
The semi driver, Jose Gomez, 32, of Mission, Texas, was treated at the scene. Weiner was taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks with injuries described as non-life threatening.
Officers say both vehicles were north bound on the highway, the semi in the lead slowing to turn west onto the county road, when Gomez says he felt the Toyota strike the back of the semi-trailer, the two units wedged together as the semi completed the turn off of Highway #75.
