Gary – Margie E. (Hemmingson, Bengtson)  Thronson, 89, of Gary, died Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at the Gary Lutheran Church, Gary.
Margie E Ueland, the daughter of Edmund and Alice (Ness) Ueland, was born on November 16, 1927 at home in Holt. She grew up on the family farm, where she helped with chores, split wood and all the manual labor a farm girl could do to help her family.
Margie attended Sunnyside County School and later Holt Public School.   For her senior year of high school, Margie moved to Newfolden, to live with her aunt and uncle and graduated with the class of 1946.
As a young woman, Margie moved to Grand Forks, ND for work and met Oscar Hemmingson. Margie and Oscar were united in marriage on May 26, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston. The couple made their first home in Wahpeton, ND and then moved to Gary.
During the early 1950s, as their family grew, Oscar and Margie lived in Hoople, ND, Minneapolis, and Lead SD, with Margie doing cooking and cleaning for farm hands for much of the time.  In 1954, they relocated back to the Gary area. As a busy mother of four, Margie also helped daily with the milking and other necessary chores.
Following Oscar’s death on June 19, 1977, Margie continued to live on the farm, making many trips to Newfolden to care for her elderly parents. While there, she met Arnold Bengtson and they were united in marriage on March 29, 1980 in Twin Valley. She lost Arnie on March 9, 2002, after which Margie returned to Gary in 2004.
On October 15, 2005, Margie married her dear friend Ordale Thronson, and they were blessed with 10 years of marriage before his death on September 30, 2015. She remained at home until June of this year when she entered the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home. After many struggles, Margie, under the care of Hospice, passed away on Wednesday, August 30th with family by her side.
Margie was truly a caregiver and never shied away from hard work. She graciously cared for each of her husbands, as their health declined, and she lovingly watched them go before her.
Margie was an active member of the Gary Lutheran Church where she served in the ladies’ aide. She was also a proud member of the Legion Auxiliary for many years.
In her younger years, Margie enjoyed working in her garden and canning her produce each season.  Margie always had animals in her life and especially cherished her dogs and cats. In her later years, she appreciated the silent beauty of watching birds sit at their feeders. Margie also loved to read and crochet.
Margie is survived by three sons, Bruce (Elva) Hemmingson of Coon Rapids, Wayne Hemmingson of Gary, and Stuart (Kathy) Hemmingson of Eagan; one daughter, Muriel Bateson of Gary; one sister, Eleanor (Ervin) Anderson of Pierz; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands: Oscar Hemmingson, Arnold Bengtson, and Ordale Thronson; her son-in-law, James Bateson and stepson Randal Bengtson.
